Furbies new fly mask

Hi BB's - check out Furbies new mask. She is cheetah! Is that just too cute. She thinks so. She's like----- well if I have to wear one of these ridiculous looking things could I at least look trendy or something.

Geessh mom.

Thanks for all your support!!! Be back riding soon with ya"ll.

Doc and Jo--My hero!

Thank you to Jo and Doc for the fantastic ride I had on him. It was so darn nice to canter. It has been so long. Thanks again. Your horse is truly amazing. You just don't know how much I appreciate you letting me ride him. What a great horse!!!!

And to Furbie--I even prayed for you in church yesterday. Just wanted you to know that we are watching out for you and your recovery.

Upcoming weather

I'm going to take advantage of our last day of balmy weather and ride this afternoon right after getting off of work.  Hope to see you there.  For the rest of the week, I'll just be swinging by to check on the Docster and feed Gary's cat.  When will spring get here?  I'm so impatient!

Trail Ride at Benbrook Lake

Yesterday was beautiful.  The weather was awesome and so a group of friends decided to go out the Benbrook Lake and trail ride.   When I got to the barn, Bailey was lame, I was so disappointed.  But quickly though of what other horse at the barn could I ride?   Impy was good on the trails for Deb, so I texted Deb and she said, "absolutely".    So off to get Impy (the hard to catch horse)  this only took about 5 minutes and he was coming to me.  A couple of lunge rounds, grab some tack (smaller girth for sure) and off to load in the trailer.  Impy decided he didn't like ramps or a straight load trailer.  With some small encouragement and help from Jan he was loaded and we were off only 30 minutes late for the meeting time.
Trails were awesome and he was the trooper, against motorcylces, bicycles, cars, model airplanes and plastic bags on the ground.  Nothing like a confident Western Please Show Horse for the trails.
Thanks again for the ride Impy

Last Sunday We had Dr Hank Miller come to the barn

Dr Hank does such a good job explaining what is going on with your horse, let's you see the problem and then show you how he corrects.   I have had him work on Bailey three times and she is always so happy when he does the adjustment.   He is very calm, quiet and friendly, the horses love him.

After the horses were adjusted, Catherine, Jan, Glorya and Sue (Laura's Mom) got adjusted.   Everyone learned something about their horse and themselves.

Would like to have him out again in another couple of months.   Let me know if you would like to be on the schedule.   $110.00 for horse adjustment and $40 for person.  He is a Human chiropractor that is safe for horses and us.

Jaime's Birthday

If you haven't seen the white board at the barn you may not know that Saturday, 1/29, is Jaime's birthday.  He treats our horses so well...so much better than that fellow before him.  Don't forget to tell him "Feliz cumpleanos!"

3 year old & Parelli horse

Thanks, Glorya, for sharing that video.  It's amazing how calm that horse is - hours of work involved in developing that attitude!  Loved it!
Anyone riding Saturday night? If not, what time is everyone going on Saturday?

Happy Birthday Ginger!!!

My oldest child turned 18 today, and she still looks as great as she did as a 4 year old! I can't believe I have had Ginger for 14 years now, that's more than half of my life! I won't be able to make it out to the barn tonight to celebrate, but I will give my permission this one time for her to have treats...lol. Max amount is 5 since it is her birthday (and of course NO alfalfa of any sort as always) =) So if anyone is out tonight be sure to wish my big baby a Happy Birthday. Thanks to everyone who has kept an eye out on her while I am in my busy month at work. I will be gone again this weekend for a show in Las Vegas. Maybe some of you can convince my Mom to come out and ride Ginger ;)

Rodeo

We need some help finding some cheap seat for the Rodeo.  I think January 29 or 30th 7:30 one would be good.   It's $22.00 and 8 to park (need to car pool.  Don't you think it would be good to put a poster on Wall for Rodeo.   This way people could sign up or tell us they want to go and we could sure everyone is included.

Need to make a sign for pattern nights too.  I will get our Marketing person right on this (oh, Lorna dear)

Texas Horse Web

I thought that you might be interested in taking a look at the website "Texas Horse Web" and have added a link for it. (To access the link, just click on the title for this post.) This is a group that is attempting to influence legislation they think will help keep the horse agri-business financially healthy in the state.  There's a petition available on their web site for those who agree with their agenda.  I'm not campaigning for or against, but thought it was an issue of interest to us all.

Lorna, I'm certainly up for pattern work; we all need to be thinking about what evening or day would be best for each of us so we can arrange a weekly pattern work/practice.  Goals keep me going and Doc loves to have a job!

Back from Colorado Stockshow

Hi Barn Buddies...back from Colorado. I have the pattern book from Stock show. We must get together soon and practice. We will only become better riders -- and have so much fun doing it. BUT, until it gets warmer you won't see much of me.

I am missing Furbie, but it's just too cold.

Cold I love the cold

Everyone knows that I am from the North.   When I started in horses it was dead winter, I got my first horse and it was -25 in Cincinnati, OH.   That weather never stopped me from going out the the barn every night to shovel frozen horse apples and chop ice out of her water bucket.

Here in TX, I simply put on a warm hat, gloves and ride.  It's the best part of my day.  This is something I never want to give up.
Come on barn buddies, join me in a time of pure pleasure.

Schedule? What schedule?

I usually try to ride 4 times a week (at least); looks like the exception is this week due to the inclement weather (brrrrrrrrr).  I went out Monday evening to check on Doc.  He didn't seem to be nearly as cold as I was and there was just a paper thin layer of ice in his buckets.  Couldn't make it this evening, but will try to get out tomorrow for a bit.  I hear that this weekend is going to be in the balmy 50's - hallelujah!!!  In the meantime, thank goodness for the ski underwear!  Stay warm, all!

WOW is all I can Say about the Parelli Clinic on Saturday

There is a group of ladies that do Parelli and they get together and have Playdays.   These Playdays have lots of obstacles and at each obstacle there is a blue sheet telling you how to do the it and what to do at each different level.   Sending your horse up and over an 8 foot pile of dirt, sending them through a hose curtain between two trees, water hole dug out and lined with blue tarp then filled with water, leaves and dirt (2 feet deep),  drag a black bag of crushed cans behind  the horse, jumping blue barrels,  going under an arch made out of pvc pipe and then checker banner flags hung on it and much more.  It was so much fun and educational for Bailey and myself.

A big decision

You all know that Pride is at the barn for another month with me.   Because of my hip and other problems, I have thought about getting a gaited trail horse to ride.   Every time I think about the relationship I have with Bailey, the thought of another horses goes away.  Bailey and I have been together for two years and she not even broke to ride when Janet and I got her at 3 years old.  She was broke to ride in three weeks and Janet gave her over to me and told me to put the miles on her.   That I did, we worked hard at all the Parelli games, trial rode and did parades.  When asked to do something she steps up to the plate and does it.  This is the relationship I will give up if I decide to go with a gaited horse.  I show up as the leader and Bailey shows up to follow.

The question I ask myself, " is do I really need a gaited horse to continue riding?"   I usually walk on trails and enjoy all the natural around me.  Bailey does have a forward moving trot.  but, how much do I ask for her to do it?

Relationship is the most important thing with you animals.   Bailey and I have a solid one.  What to do??????

Keep an Eye on my Baby

Well, I am glad to finally join the blog! Thanks to everyone who worked this out. I unfortunately won't be out at the barn much this month due to working my tail off (as I write this sitting at work still...lol). So please keep an eye on Ginger for me. I will try to make it out on the weekends, but I have to work some of those as well. Be sure to post pictures and blogs of what you have been doing so I can live vicariously through you and the blog =)

Thanks to everyone...

Well...Doc and I are finally cantering (although my form is a little - well alot--sloppy).  When I think about where I was with that big lug last year, so very frustrated, it's hard to believe how far we've both come.

Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me to hang in there; ground work makes all of the difference and I have a great equine partner, now.  It's amazing how 16.2 hands, 1250 lbs. can work its way into your heart.

Looking forward to learning more about horses, riding and my barn buddies in 2011.

Happy Birthday, Debbie!

Happy Birthday, Debbie!!!  What a great time to be alive!  So glad we know you.  :-)

Fun On Sunday

Jan came over to the barn and we rode each others horses.  She was excited to tell  me that she had just bought two mini's.   Sophie and Sadie they are mother and daughter.  They will be living with Pride down in Cleburne soon.  Jan has decided to  leave Pride one more month so she can come and ride with us during the weekend.

I have always wanted to do Parelli with Mini's and this will be my chance.

Weather was really nice and sunny.  I love the Sun in the winter makes me feel good.

Jan brought her horse vacuum and Bailey didn't seem to care at all when we put it on her.   Good news now I can get the dirt off of her during the winter months.   She has left it there for us to try, if we want to.

Have a great week

Glorya
